H.E. Tamar Taliashvili

 

AMBASSADOR EXTRAORDINARY AND PLENIPOTENTIARY OF GEORGIA TO THE UNITED STATES

 

Ambassador Tamar Taliashvili is a distinguished diplomat, legal scholar, and public servant, currently serving as the first woman Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the United States of America, a post she assumed in July 2025.

Prior to her appointment in Washington, Ambassador Taliashvili served as a Permanent Representative of Georgia to the Council of Europe. Within the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, she was elected as a Chair of the General Rapporteur Group on Education, Culture, Sport, Youth, and Environment.

During her political career as a member of the Parliament of Georgia, Ambassador Taliashvili served as the First Deputy Chair of the Committee for Education and Science. Concurrently, she was elected Subcommittee Chair of Media and Information Society at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and acted as rapporteur on media and youth issues.

Ambassador Taliashvili contributed to local and regional development in the role of an elected Counsellor for two successive terms at the Tbilisi City Assembly, where she chaired the Committee for Culture and Education. Her contributions to regional cooperation at the international level include her tenure as Vice-President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.

Her experience in institutional reform was well demonstrated during her service at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia—as Head of Administration and as Vice-Rector of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

An accomplished legal academic, Ambassador Taliashvili completed her doctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Germany, following advanced studies in Germany and Denmark. She holds a law degree from Tbilisi State University and has served as Dean of the School of Law at David Aghmashenebeli University and as a Professor at Caucasus University.

In the early stages of her career, Ambassador Taliashvili has harnessed her experience to provide legal expertise to various international and regional organizations and projects. Notably, she has also served as a delegate of the American Association for Justice and cooperated with the leading US law firms.

Ambassador Taliashvili is the author of multiple works published in Europe in the fields of intellectual property, comparative law and post-Soviet transformation. She is fluent in Georgian, English, German, and Russian, and has a basic knowledge of French.
