Embassy of Georgia continues to promote Georgia’s diverse culture, rich cuisine and ancient wine making traditions at large forums in Washington DC and this spring turned out to be the busy one.
Georgian food and wine was introduced to the guests of the Annual Events DC Embassy Chef Challenge presented by TCMA on April 2nd. Georgian Embassy and Supra Restaurant Chef Malkhaz Maisashvili represented Georgia’s culinary marvels matched with Georgian red wines at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington DC on April 2nd. Hundreds of guests of the Chef Challenge had an opportunity to try variety of world culinary, including one from Georgia.
Earlier, Embassy Chef Malkhaz Maisashvili prepared Georgian Pkhali and delicious Sri Lankan dishes, presenting a culinarily diverse dinner to the guests of the Embassy Chef Challenge Dinner at the residence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka on March 20th.
In addition, Fox 5 DC morning show featured Georgian Embassy Public Affairs Counselor Sofia Gegechkori and Chef Malkhaz Maisashvili preparing Khachapuri (cheese bread) and Nigvziani Badrijani (eggplants with walnuts) and showing off Georgian wine.
Embassy of Georgia, in partnership with the Georgian Center, represented Georgian culture at the 2019 Francophonie Cultural Festival hosted by the Smithsonian Associates and the Embassy of France. The Embassy program for the Festival included a number of different events.
One of them was a presentation of Georgian poetry at the Poetry Night of the Festival. The Georgian Center’s Maya Turashvili-Monroe recited in both native Georgian and French the verses of the 19th century classic author Ilia Chavchavadze and 20th century poet Moris Potskhishvili.
The Georgian Embassy together with the Smithsonian Associates also hosted the screening of CHANTRAPAS by Otar Ioseliani, an acclaimed Georgian film director currently residing in France. Embassy’s First Secretary Marika Mikeladze presented the film along with an overview of Georgian cinematography history. The screening took place at the Dillon Ripley Center of the Smithsonian Institution and was supported by the Georgian National Film Center.
The Georgian contingent at the Festival’s closing event La Grande Fete at the Embassy of France presented national costumes, food and wine, as well as a live performance of the traditional dances by the newly founded Georgian Dance DC group.
Georgian wines for the cultural events were graciously provided by Georgian Wine House and Mamuka Tsereteli, and Interbalt Products and Konstantin Khizder.
