On Wednesday, September 25, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze addressed the United Nations General Assembly to outline Georgia’s role in building peace and prosperity in the region, and progress toward EU accession. Read his remarks here.

The Prime Minister spoke about ongoing crises and challenges, from the war in Ukraine to regional tensions in the South Caucasus region, highlighting Georgia’s role as a nation that stands for peace and human rights. He underlined “Georgia’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine” and praised the peace settlement process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, noting that through peace and security, the region can capitalize on its resources and advantages.

The Head of Government also spoke about Georgia’s unique geographic position as the bridge between East and West and its commitment to the Middle Corridor Initiative. He shared that Georgia is “a hub not only for the exchange of goods, but also for energy transit and much more,” and he touted the country’s efforts to expand transit infrastructure such as the forthcoming Anaklia Deep Sea Port construction.

The Prime Minister also shared how the Government of Georgia’s pro-growth agenda has paid off in recent years, revealing that the nation has cut poverty in half over the last decade, reduced government debt, and brought more Georgians into the labor force than ever before.

In closing, Prime Minister Kobakhidze spoke to the Georgians who still live behind the occupation lines, pledging that one day all communities will be reunited and that Georgia will join the EU by the end of this decade.
