In private conversations and public panel discussions at the World Economic Forum, Prime Minister Garibashvili noted that Georgia, fresh off the heels of receiving European Union Candidate Status in December, is uniquely positioned to serve as a geopolitical and economic gateway between Europe and Asia. Speaking with political and business leaders from across the globe, he shared Georgia’s success story and key opportunities for economic development.
One of the key priorities Garibashvili shared was the need to further develop the Middle Corridor, a logistics route that connects the economic powerhouses of Europe and China to Central Asia. He noted that Georgia, which has aggressively invested in internal developments, is making exceptional progress in achieving this historic goal. He pointed to cutting-edge infrastructure projects, such as the construction of the Anaklia deep sea port, a new international airport in Tbilisi, and Georgia’s leadership in developing a Black Sea submarine cable project as examples of Georgia’s commitment to being the gateway between Europe and Asia.
In addition, Garibashvili stressed the importance of expanding integration and cooperation between the European Union and non-EU states, particularly in the Western Balkans region. With Georgia recently receiving a historic ascension to EU Candidate Status, the Head of Government shared Georgia’s view that EU enlargement will create a safer and stronger region for all. As such, he also spoke with global business leaders about the economic benefits of investing in nations like Georgia.
