While visiting the United States, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili met with U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

The two emphasized their shared interest in Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration and the President’s own advocacy for a unified and inclusive approach to meeting the European Commission’s 12 recommendations for European Union candidate status and eventual membership.

President Zourabichvili also discussed with Sullivan the need to hold Russia accountable through the full economic costs of sanctions, export controls, and other economic restrictions imposed by the U.S. and the international coalition of over 30 allies and partners for Putin’s illegal and unprovoked war in Ukraine. The President further made clear to Sullivan that Georgian territory will not be utilized by Russia as an avenue for sanctions evasion or backfill.

Following the meeting, President Zourabichvili expressed Georgia’s gratitude for the U.S. support of the Georgian people and its commitment to advancing Georgia’s democratic values and EU integration.
