Prime Minister Garibashvili on Georgia’s Unwavering Support to Ukraine
Speaking at a plenary meeting of the Parliament, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili highlighted Georgia’s full solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Garibashvili stated that the support was evidenced by appropriate political and diplomatic steps in bilateral or multilateral formats, adding up to 235 declarations, statements, resolutions, and decisions supporting Ukraine.
Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine
The Prime Minister highlighted the humanitarian aid provided by the Government to Ukraine, of which $7 million has already been allocated to help Ukrainians in Georgia, and up to 1,000 tons of humanitarian cargo has been sent to the country.
International Actions
Prime Minister Garibashvili stated that Georgia is in full compliance with the restrictive measures imposed on Russia by the international community for its invasion of Ukraine.
The Prime Minister stressed that the Georgian Government has been in close coordination with its strategic partners and maintains a constant exchange of information, reiterating that the Government will never allow illegal activities of any sanctioned country, company, or individual in the territory of Georgia.
“Our legislation – for example, on money laundering, terrorism financing and promotion, control of military and dual-use products and more – ensures that sanctions cannot be evaded,” he told lawmakers.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the National Bank of Georgia and local financial institutions were operating in “full compliance” with the financial policies of the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom.
