The Millennium Challenge Account-Georgia held the presentation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s Second Compact achievements — “US-Georgia Partnership for Human Capital Development and Economic Growth” in Tbilisi, on June 21st. The Millennium Challenge Account has been implementing Compact II projects in 2014–2019, contributing to the development of human capital in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields in Georgia.
“Today we summarized the results of the Compact, presented the projects and initiatives that were implemented by the MCC Compact II. The Compact amounted to 140 million US dollars of investment in the form of a grant was intended for the human capital development in Georgia. Investments in education are the most important step forward for the country’s progress. Today, partnership with the United States has a special role for the future development of our country, “ stated Millennium Challenge Account- Georgia CEO Magda Magradze.
U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Government of Georgia signed in 2013 a second, $140 million grant (Compact) aimed at overcoming poverty and promoting economic growth through general, technical, vocational and higher education quality development. The Compact entered into force on July 2014 and continued for the following five years implemented by the Millennium Challenge Account- Georgia (MCA-Georgia).
MCA-Georgia presented the results of the Compact II with the thematic exhibition on the achievements of general, vocational and higher education projects implemented.
“Education is very important and we do a lot in this direction because Georgia wants to improve the situation in this sector. In the framework of the Compact, 91 public schools were rehabilitated, the learning environment was improved for 39 thousand Georgian students, more than 20 thousand educators passed a long-term professional development course; 51 new vocational education programs have been developed and this year we already have the first graduates of the San Diego State University. The Compact implemented in Georgia is the best in the history of the Millennium Challenge Corporation,” stated Cynthia Huger, Vice President of the US Millennium Challenge Corporation.
