Embassy hosted a screening of a film “I Swam Enguri” by Georgian director Anuna Bukia. The documentary film reflected on the struggle that Internally Displaced Persons from Abkhazia — a Georgian region occupied by Russia — go through on a daily basis. After the screening, Deputy Chief of MissionGeorge Tsikolia opened the panel discussion about the current situation and human rights condition in Georgia’s occupied territories Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region. Embassy’s Public Affairs Counselor Sofia Gegechkoriand Georgian graduate student from Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy Zviad Adzinbaia shared their experience of conflict and forced migration. Chairman of Supreme Council of Abkhazia A/R Ghia Gvazava also participated in the discussion.

Along with screening, the embassy featured exhibition “Art for Reconciliation” by young Georgian artists Nini and Dimitri Dumbadzes. The exhibition was organized by a Tbilisi-based NGO ‘Multinational Georgia for Strengthening Democratic Values’ and the Government of Abkhazia A/R in exile.

With the screening of “I Swam Enguri”, the embassy introduced movie series which will regularly be held at the embassy and other venues in Washington DC area.
