Georgian Ambassador becomes UNWTO Secretary General

Ambassador Zurab Pololikashvili becoming UNWTO SG

Georgia nominated Zurab Pololikashvili became the Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the period of 2018–2021.

The decision was confirmed at the 22nd session of the UNWTO General Assembly taking place on September 11–16, in Chengdu/China, following the recommendation of the 105th UNWTO Executive Council.

His candidature was presented by his country, Georgia, in accordance with the UNWTO statutes.

This is the first time ever that a Georgian candidate has been selected to such a high-ranking post at the international organization, announced Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Up to now, Mr. Pololikashvili served as Resident Representative of Georgia at the UNWTO and as the Ambassador of Georgia to Spain, Morocco, Algeria and Andorra.
