Georgia is gearing up for its parliamentary elections that will take place on October 31, 2020 and will mark another milestone in Georgia’s democratic development. With recent constitutional reforms, the 2020 elections will be the most democratic election ever held resulting in a more proportional representation in parliament than ever before.
Throughout the year, Georgia’s Parliament along with other non-parliamentary opposition parties, CSOs, international election experts, and EU and US counterparts carried out a comprehensive review of electoral legislation. The reforms include a professional election administration, the allocation of free airtime for all qualified political parties, and strict pre-election oversight to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.
In order to ensure the safety of election officers, voters, and observers, polling stations will adhere to strict safety regulations, obligatory health and safety rules will be set at polling stations, accommodations have been made for individuals with coronavirus and those in quarantine zones to safely cast their vote, and clear guidelines on safety, and testing have been implemented for observers.
