Ahead of Georgia’s parliamentary elections taking place this October, the Georgian government is taking strong action to guarantee the elections will take place in a free and fair environment.

During his recent trip to Brussels, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze shared several steps and reforms the Georgian government is taking to secure the latest elections, which will see all of Georgia’s members of parliament go before voters. He highlighted new electoral legislation, electronic voting, and “extensive monitoring” from international observers as examples of Georgia’s commitment to election integrity and fairness. The goal of these reforms is to prevent any manipulation or procedural issues during the voting period.

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili affirmed these commitments in a discussion with the US-based National Democratic Institute. He called his meeting with NDI a “fruitful exchange” and stressed that a “free, fair and competitive electoral process” was a top priority.
