Following Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s successful visit to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili made a working visit to Brussels, where he highlighted Georgia’s commitment to implementing the 12 E.U. recommendations for full candidate status and Euro-Atlantic integration.
During his visit, the Foreign Minister met with European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova and discussed Georgia’s agenda to achieve its European aspirations. Darchiashvili and Jourova emphasized the importance of granting Georgia E.U. candidate status, a strategic decision for Georgia and the European Union.
Foreign Minister Darchiashvili spoke with E.U. Homeland Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson about the positive dynamics of Georgia-E.U. cooperation in law enforcement. Darchiashvili further gave the Commissioner a status update on current reform efforts and reiterated Georgia’s strong commitment to this pursuit.
Foreign Minister also met with EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi and discussed Georgia’s progress on the EU accession path and noted that the implementation of the Commission’s recommendations remains at the top of Georgia’s foreign policy agenda.
