Ambassador David Zalkaliani met with US Congresswoman Ann Wagner, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee of the House of Representatives.
The parties engaged in a discussion concerning the security landscape in the Black Sea and South Caucasus region, as well as the crucial aspects of the Georgia-US strategic partnership.
During the meeting, Ambassador informed the congresswoman on the challenging security environment, particularly in light of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Ambassador emphasized the difficult situation in the regions of Georgia that are currently occupied by Russia, as well as along the occupation line, including the provocative actions undertaken by the occupation forces. Ambassador expressed gratitude to the US Congress for their unwavering, bipartisan support in upholding Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The parties also spoke about Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Ambassador shared the significant progress Georgia has made in implementing the 12 priorities of the European Union, underscoring the importance of US engagement and support on Georgia’s path towards EU integration. Moreover, the parties discussed Georgia’s pivotal role in enhancing European energy security and the further development of the Middle Transit Corridor. Ambassador also touched upon Georgia’s efforts in fostering peace in the South Caucasus through the peaceful neighborhood initiative.
The meeting emphasized the paramount importance of deepening the Georgia-US strategic partnership across all priority areas, encompassing defense and security, democracy, trade, economy, and investments.
