Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with General Christopher Cavoli, the commander of the U.S. European Command, in Tbilisi to discuss the vital role Georgia can play in securing the Black Sea region.
In-line with NATO’s own efforts, Georgia aims to anchor the Black Sea region into Europe by further integrating itself into Euro-Atlantic institutions.
Garibashvili confirmed his government’s “clear readiness” to continue supporting and contributing to NATO’s efforts to strengthen the security of the Black Sea region alongside the alliance’s own endeavor to expand cooperation with partners like Georgia in the region.
The Prime Minister also stressed the efforts being taken by the Georgian Government under his leadership to integrate into the EU and NATO. He said that the support of allies in this endeavor is of “particular importance”, and thanked Cavoli for supporting Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration and emphasized the importance of the visit.
The meeting also focused on U.S. support for increasing Georgia’s defense capabilities and the country’s contributions to common Euro-Atlantic security. The two officials noted Georgia’s active participation in international, NATO-led missions over the last two decades and the country’s readiness to stand with NATO allies and other partner countries to support North Atlantic security.
