The Government of Georgia has officially submitted its application for EU membership in an expedited process due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with Georgia’s political parties working together so that Georgia’s dream of becoming a fully recognized member of the European community will be realized.

On March 3rd, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili officially signed Georgia’s application for EU membership, stating that the action “is another important step on Georgia’s path to European integration.” Now the EU Commission is set to assess Georgia’s application after the EU ambassadors triggered the move.

The ruling party and the opposition are united in their shared aspiration towards European integration, an ambition that begins with the Georgian people who have supported EU and NATO membership at around 75%-80% for the past decade.

On Tuesday, the Georgian Parliament approved the resolution on the country’s European Union integration during the plenary session. 111 MPs from across the political spectrum voted in favor of the resolution, with no votes against.

The resolution contains 13 points and calls on EU member states and EU institutions, as well as the Georgian Government, to take all necessary steps to accelerate Georgia’s accession to the Union.

The Government of Georgia will continue to do its utmost to meet its obligations and responsibilities as it proceeds along the path to EU membership.
