On behalf of the people of Georgia, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia sent separate, personal letters of congratulations to President-Elect Joe Biden and his running mate, Vice-President Elect Kamala Harris on their election victory.
In his letter to Biden, dated November 9, Gakharia noted that even with the challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic, their respective citizens still made their voices clear at the ballot box during energetic elections in both countries. The values shared by the two democracies bind the two countries together into a “rock-solid strategic partnership.”
As Senator and as Vice President, Biden took an active interest in the Trans-Atlantic alliance and greater global engagement of the US on NATO enlargement and other global security issues. Biden also took a personal interest in Georgia, visiting Georgia on several occasions. Gakharia thanked Biden for his long-standing support for Georgia, reminding Biden that he once noted that the US is committed to the “journey” to a “secure, free, democratic and once again united Georgia.”
In a separate letter, Gakharia told Harris that, “Your election sends a powerful message to the world – including to my daughter – that women around the globe can accomplish anything they set out to achieve.” He also noted to Harris that the climate of Georgia and California allows both locations to produce world class wines, and invited Harris to visit the birthplace of wine on a future trip abroad.
