Georgia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has counted 100% of the precincts. According to the final results, 9 parties passed the 1% threshold and have gained seats in Parliament: The Georgian Dream (48%), the United National Movement (27%), European Georgia (3%), Strategy Agmashenebeli (3%), Lelo (3%), Alliance of Patriots (3%), Girchi (2%), Citizens (1%), Labor (1%).
According to constitutional amendments approved earlier this year and embedded in the Election Code, any party that clears 40.5% of votes is eligible to form the government, and 76 MPs are required to form a single-party majority in the Parliament.
Georgian Prime Minister Gakharia welcomed the historic voter turnout that marks another step forward in Georgia’s democracy. US Ambassador Degnan called on all people and parties to be calm and peaceful as the final results are tallied.
According to the preliminary results, Georgian Dream candidates are winning the majoritarian race in the first round of elections in 15 of 30 majoritarian constituencies, while a second round of elections on November 21 is expected to take place in 15 constituencies, including in all eight
For the first time, the elections were held per a mixed electoral system, with 120 members of parliament (MP) to be elected via party lists and the remaining 30 running in single-member majoritarian districts.
Unlike previous elections, the parties which will receive at least one per cent of total votes will be allowed into parliament.
