Embassy of Georgia to the United States hosted a reception celebrating the Independence and the Centennial of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia at the United States Institute of Peace, attended by around 500 guests from US governmental and political circles, public and international organizations, Washington DC diaspora organizations and the diplomatic corps.

Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili addressed the guests of the evening together with US Senator Todd Young (R-IN) and Georgian Ambassador David Bakradze. All three speakers stressed the dedicated fight for freedom by several generations of Georgians and vital importance of strong strategic partnership with US for maintaining Georgia’s independence and sovereignty.

Among honorary guests, there were other members of the Georgian visiting delegation: First Vice-Premier and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development დიმიტრი ქუმსიშვილი / Dimitry Kumsishvili, Vice-Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikheil Janelidze, and the Minister of Defense of Georgia Levan Izoria.

Embassy reception highlighted the deep history and culture of Georgia. The history of the last century was presented by the photo exhibit, supported by the President’s Administration, Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense.

The ancient culture of the nation was introduced to guests via exposing the antique Golden Heritage replicas and artisan crafts demonstrated by Georgian Arts&Culture Center ხელოვნების საერთაშორისო ცენტრი, while the State Agency of Wine supported Georgian wine display featured the oldest in the world viticulture – #Georgia, cradle of wine.

Guest had an opportunity to enjoy the wonderful ‘Georgian Overtones’ program performance by New York based Georgian pianist Giorgi Mikadze with his band and Georgian ensemble Basiani trio, in addition to the Georgian and US anthems. The musical program was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia.

Embassy of Georgia to the United States continues to mark the centennial anniversary of the first Democratic Republic of Georgia with the diverse program for diverse audience throughout the year 2018.
